Le Debonnaire and Les Hirondelles are separate houses, situated about 200 metres apart on the same beautiful property. Each house has its own, completely private, swimming pool; each house has its own approach from the main drive into the property and its own parking area; either house can be booked on its own, or they can be booked together.

The two houses, with their terraces, swimming pools and outbuildings, form a delightful group of fine stone buildings set in 5 hectares (12 acres) of well-planted, lovingly maintained gardens full of mature shrubs and trees, the whole surrounded by farmland and oak woods. There is lots of space for children to play, well-away from the very quiet country road. With a fabulous view from the main terrace of Le Debonnaire down the steep-sided valley to the lake below, this is the perfect place for a family holiday!

Le Debonnaire is a very old, stone-built country house, which has been beautifully restored and rebuilt by the present owners on the foundations of what was originally the 'home farm' of the Benedictine monks who built the C11th Abbey of Saint Maurin in the nearby village. People have been living on this site for about 1000 years and today the house is spacious, stylish, warm and very comfortable.

The main house has three large double bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. To one side there is a small cottage with a double bedroom, ensuite bathroom and separate small bedroom - ideal for a cook or nanny.

In the middle of the house is the large, fully-equipped 'farmhouse' kitchen, with an 'Aga' cooker, central island and small breakfast table, and behind the kitchen is the utility room. The 'conservatory' dining room is next to the kitchen and has French windows out to the smaller outside dining terrace, with spectacular views down the steep tree-lined valley.

On the other side of the kitchen, across the main entrance hall with its fine old stone staircase, is the very large and elegant sitting room. This has a huge log-burning open fireplace, lots of comfortable sofas and chairs, TV, DVD player, WIFI, music system, etc.

From the entrance hall, a door leads one way to the wood store and parking area and, the other way, down old curving stone steps to the large South-facing sun terrace which has chairs, a large dining table and sunshades and, again, spectacular views down the valley. This is the place for long, lazy lunches and evening drinks in the setting sun.

Back inside, the stone staircase leads up from the entrance hall to the first floor landing. On one side there is the very large master bedroom suite, and a door out to a private sun terrace which leads on up to the main swimming pool. On the other side of the landing, a corridor leads to the two large guest double bedroom suites, one with a double bed and one with twin singles that can be joined together into a double. All three main bedrooms are stylish and very comfortable. On the second floor, the attics have been well-converted into a large children's bedroom with four single beds, a basin and a WC.

Above the house, steps lead up through the garden to the main swimming pool area. This is securely fenced around paved terraces and has a brilliant poolside covered space with sitting/dining/kitchen/games room/changing room. The pool (10m x 5m) can be heated and has an electric pool cover. The whole pool area is so well laid out that a large family can happily spend a whole day in the warm, sheltered sunshine enjoying the pool.

One of the added advantages of this property is the very attractive nearby village of Saint Maurin. Built over ten centuries around the imposing ruins of its C11th Benedictine Abbey, the central square has picturesque half-timbered houses, a C17th Town Hall and the remains of the castle tower with battlements. Local services include: a well-stocked village shop, bakery, café-bistro, post-office and brand new tennis court (FOC).

The whole property, whether rented as two separate houses or taken together as a whole, provides all the ingredients for a wonderful family holiday - for one or two families, several generations and lots of children.
