These properties are for rent through Simply Gascony, individually or several together, for parties of between 2 and 40 people - or you can rent the whole village from us for 80 people! The Village is pedestrian only and because it is also sometimes used for Events, a wide range of services can be available on request - including 'Breakfast in a Basket', delivered to your door!

The Village

The Village is located in one of the most attractive parts of Gascony, in between the two charming and vibrant market towns of Lectoure and Condom. Both have weekly markets, a wide variety of shops and services, supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, etc. Both towns are on one of the pilgrim routes to the famous shrine of Santiago de Compostela in northwest Spain, and the extraordinarily beautiful small village of La Romieu, with its C14 Collegiate Church and cloister, is only 10 minutes away.

The Village is superbly managed by Anneli Faiers, who lives on site and is also the onsite private chef. Anneli will help you as much or as little as you require, and will be happy to organise your breakfasts, lunches, bespoke dinners, BBQs, brunches, picnics or buffets - what could be better than to start your day with Anneli's 'Breakfast in a Basket', delivered each morning direct to your lovely holiday house in Gascony!

In addition to the 8 properties shown below, The Village has a further 6 properties which are also available if your party is bigger than 40 - and The Village as whole can accommodate up to 80 people, in a total of 14 houses and cottages, as shown on the map.
 

Availability

Individual properties in The Village may be booked with Simply Gascony for holiday rentals throughout the year, subject of course to existing bookings, which at certain times of year may include Weddings or other Events. The Village is particularly well-suited for short stays (minimum 2 nights) outside the Summer Season. The 8 properties advertised here all have wood-burning fireplaces and central heating.

Gascony is best known for its glorious Summer Season in July and August. During the Rest of the Year Gascony is quieter but still full of charm and there is lots to do. In May, June, September and October the weather is often lovely but a bit cooler than in high Summer. Christmas/New Year are great fun here and you have the extra option of wonderful skiing in the Pyrenees, where the season often continues into April.

History

The original Fieumarcon Stronghold has been dated from 1143. One of the early Fieumarcons was knighted by Richard the Lionheart, Kind of England and Duke of Aquitaine and Gascony. Over the following centuries the family fortunes, and those of The Village, rose and fell until in the mid-C18 the last of the Fieumarcons died without an heir and the semi-ruined property was sold. During the C19 and C20 under various owners, the decline continued until by 1960 few buildings were left standing and hardly anyone lived in The Village.

In 1978 Frederic Coustols, a successful businessman born in the area, decided to buy the ruined village and embark on a long, visionary and ultimately brilliant restoration project. The first two phases of this work, directed by M. Coustols, took over 20 years and have rightly gained many prestigious awards for their historical and architectural quality.

The Fieumarcon stronghold has been restored and today stands as a unique property of 14 individual houses for guests, with a variety of gardens and terraces, a banqueting hall and an open air entertainment space. The Village is a monument to Gascon architecture, filled with antiques and art. The once thriving medieval village has been brought back to life and today is once again a place full of life and fun.

By the early 2000s The Village was ready to move on to the third phase - to develop a variety of locally based, sustainable, stimulating and educational activities centred on The Village. These activities include renting out The Village for Events and holiday rentals.
