As we enter September, and the weather become more chilly in northern Europe, summer weather continues in Gascony, where the climate stays mild, the days sunny and the evenings long during September and October. With temperatures forecast to reach 30 degrees with clear blue skies in the first week of September, there’s no better place to be than relaxing by one of our pools with a crisp, cold drink in hand. Eating dinner al fresco and night swimming continues into the autumn in Gascony, and as all the seasonal changes appear to be later this year than normal, we could be in for a great ‘Gascon’ last blast of summer!
The pretty gardens at Puissentut have lovely views across the valley. With a 10 x 4 metre swimming pool and plenty of space for children to run around, this is the perfect place to relax in the heart of Gascony. And to help you make the most of your stay, the owners (who live in a separate wing of the house) are on-hand to advise and assist you if required.
Le 'Bastion' du Prince Noir – this property can be booked with others at Chateau Poudenas for total guest accommodation of 40 people in summer. Simply Gascony clients usually book the 'Bastion' property which has a large saltwater swimming pool, a large private garden and lovely outdoor covered dining terrace.
The well-kept gardens at Cap de Montaulieu offer plenty of space for children to run around. The 12 x 6 metre pool has a large sun terrace, a shady pergola and wonderful wide views of Gascon countryside at its best.
Domaine de Pignoulet has the charm and original features of an old house now combined with modern comfort and excellent facilities. With its enclosed, secure gardens, barns and 12 x 6 metre swimming pool with Roman steps, this is a perfect family holiday home - and it's ideally located to enjoy the famous International Jazz Festival held every year in August at nearby Marciac.
This property has stunning views that extend across the rolling hills of Gascony as far as the Pyrenees mountains about two hours’ drive to the South. The house and connected buildings are beautifully sited around a large walled garden with lawns and trees, offering lots of sitting areas in sun and shade. On the far side of the garden from the house, stone steps wind down to the pool and tennis court, both well sited on a lower, sheltered terrace.
This property features a secluded and secure 12 x 6 metre pool, with wide terraces and an adjacent covered sitting/dining area and summer kitchen - a lovely spot to enjoy an ‘Apero’ in the evening.
The extra-large 13 x 6.5 metre pool with spacious terraces and shady seating area with fridge is positioned to make the most of far-reaching views. There is plenty of space here - children can run around to their hearts' content, play table tennis, or have fun on the wooden climbing frame.
Domaine de la Queyrouse: sleeps 10
To the rear of the property in the beautifully maintained gardens is the 12 x 6 metre pool and sun terrace with panoramic views. To the right is a cottage occupied by the owners, who maintain a discreet presence but are on hand provide a cooking service (at an additional cost), should you wish. Tucked away among magnificent oak trees is a hard tennis court.
The fenced swimming pool area is slightly away from the courtyard garden at this property, to the east of the house and designed so you can spend the whole day by the large pool. There is a summer kitchen with BBQ, shower and WC, a covered dining area, lots of chairs, tables, loungers and sunshades – pure pleasure!
Le Serien: sleeps 8 plus 3 children
The large 12 x 6 metre heated swimming pool is securely fenced and there is a large garden with a variety of mature fruit trees. There are two outdoor eating areas with a barbecue, and, on a clear day, exceptional views across open countryside to the Pyrenees, which seem almost close enough to touch!
The 12 x 6 metre pool at Serres is very well-sited with landscaped, paved terraces around, plenty of sunbeds and a special, large double sunbed with awning over. The gardens, with mature olive trees and flowering shrubs have magnificent views of the Pyrenees.
La Traddure B&B: Sleeps 4 + 2 children
This is Simply Gascony’s B&B option in the heart of beautiful Gascony countryside but only 1 hour from Toulouse airport. The 10 x 5 metre pool has stunning views across a lovely wooded valley.
