Fully vaccinated visitors to France can now return to England without having to have pre-departure Covid tests or to quarantine on their return home.
Although Gascony is generally more popular with tourists and visitors in the summer months, the region also has good weather in the cooler autumn months, and a welcoming winter atmosphere, with markets, festive events and the option to ski in the Pyrenees. It also offers a healthy atmosphere with excellent air quality, good food and plenty of active and relaxing activities available. With many people now able to work remotely, an extended working holiday over the winter months may seem like an appealing prospect. Easily drivable from the UK via ferry or Eurotunnel, as well as served by both Bordeaux and Toulouse airports, securing autumn and winter rental properties in Gascony is safe, simple and promises a great opportunity to recharge and relax.
For this month’s special offer, we’re presenting Cap de Montaulieu, our beautiful sleeps-12, 18th century country house. The house is available for short or long periods between 1 November 2021 and 31 March 2022, including the whole winter. Rents are negotiable depending on the length of rental and the number of occupants.
Why not incorporate a skiing holiday into your Gascony stay? The Pyrenees ski season usually starts in December and ends in April. Cap de Montaulieu is about two hours driving time to the main ski resorts, so it is easy to combine a holiday in Gascony with a few days or a weeks’ skiing in the Pyrenees.
When it comes to the property itself, Cap de Montaulieu is spacious and very comfortable, with six large double bedrooms, complete with en suite bathrooms. It’s a great winter house – light, well insulated, centrally heated and has a vast open fireplace. The very large living room (with piano!) means that everyone can comfortably meet all together, or enjoy a film around the large TV. The kitchen is conveniently located between the living room and the spacious dining room. There is a playroom with children’s books and toys as well as a projector and large screen for DVDs. There is also a cosy study with good WiFi (great for ‘working from home’!) and plenty of other places for reading and quiet games.
If skiing isn’t your thing, then there’s plenty of other activities to enjoy at Cap in winter: inside - jigsaws, board games, backgammon, chess, cards (a bridge table), painting and drawing materials; good Wi-Fi and several music systems; bookshelves full of books in every room; or outside - table tennis in the large barn, badminton, boules, croquet; there are two bicycles in the barn, and good walks all around; the countryside lends itself to photography and painting with very pure and clean air. Cap’s panoramic views can be admired from inside and outside the house.
Nearby you have the local market town of Beaumont de Lomagne to explore – a charming C13 ‘bastide’ only 10 minutes’ drive away. There is an excellent farmers’ market every Saturday under the beautiful mediaeval covered hall in the main square. There are a couple of good restaurants, and the local bakery, butcher, pharmacy, newsagent, banks, and other shops are also all in the centre of town.
The minimum rental period for Cap de Montaulieu in Winter is normally two weeks.
The Christmas/New Year holiday period will be from Saturday 18 December 2021 to Saturday 8 January 2022.
