LA TRADDURE

Sleeps 4 (+ 2 young children)
Up to £90 per adult per night, including breakfast

DESCRIPTION

La Traddure Bed & Breakfast is based in the guest wing of the owners’ ancient stone-built hillside Gascon farmhouse. The independent wing of the house has separate access from the courtyard garden on one side and through to the breakfast terrace on the other. There are two double bedrooms for 4 adults plus an extra small bedroom for 2 young children.

La Traddure is 20 minutes’ walk from the charming C13 ‘bastide’ village of Monfort, and about 10 minutes’ drive each way to the ‘bastide’ market towns of Fleurance and Mauvezin. The approach to the property is along a narrow country road between fields, then down a private track, between ancient mill-stones and through a pair of Cypress trees (traditionally called ‘Health & Happiness’!). The farmhouse, the open-fronted stone barn and other buildings are grouped around a courtyard with the restored pavilion in one corner. Beyond the courtyard, the garden is divided into several ‘terraced rooms’, overlooking the pool, the orchard, and paddocks beyond. The house and gardens face south-east, across a very private valley to old oak woods on the other hillside – we cannot see another house!

Guests have the use of the lovely swimming pool and shady gardens with a pavilion, hammocks, and lots of quiet sitting areas under old oak and walnut trees. The courtyard makes an excellent ‘terrain des boules’ and there is a croquet and badminton grass area. The gardens are planted with roses, vines, lavender, rosemary, and other scented plants, making a haven for birds, butterflies, and bees. The gated swimming pool is on a lower level, with wide terraces and sitting areas with loungers and sunshades. Although a little apart from the house, the pool can be easily watched over from the upper terrace.

The guest wing has been stylishly renovated and decorated with charming pictures and ‘objets d’art’. The bedrooms are accessed from the courtyard garden through a small entrance lobby with good bookshelves. There are two very comfortable double bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room and the other with an adjacent private shower room, and the small children’s bedroom beside it, which can also be used as a dressing-room with the bedroom. Guests have the use of a dining table in the open-sided courtyard pavilion, and the main covered dining terrace for breakfast. This is a generous meal with tea and coffee, fruit juices, fruit, yoghurts, cereals and, of course croissants and baguettes with delicious butter, jams and honey from our bees.

La Traddure is ideal for a short stay of a few nights. It may suit you if you are travelling around Gascony, or waiting to move into a Simply Gascony house for a longer holiday, or if you want to stay in the area while looking for a house to buy. The property is well-located near several attractive market towns and under an hour from Toulouse airport. It’s also about two hours' drive to the Pyrenees, for walking/picnics/canoeing/rafting during the Summer, or ski-ing during the Winter.
